Roasted breakfast recipes

Everyone can braai at night! But why wait so long? Let’s start the day with a delicious breakfast brunch off the grill.

Whether it’s hearty or sweet: We have three incredibly tasty and simple recipes for you – so get on the grill!

Three ingredient banana pancakes

So delicious and so easy too! Fluffy pancakes can be made super easy and fast with just three ingredients that you definitely have at home. Another advantage: Thanks to the ripe bananas in the dough and toppings such as blueberries, raspberries or maple syrup, you can do without industrial sugar. The small fruits contain little fructose and still give your pancakes the perfect sweetness.

Ingredients for 14 small pancakes:

  • 4 bananas (preferably overripe)
  • 6 eggs (medium size)
  • 120 g of flour

That’s how it’s done

The preparation of the small pancakes only takes a few minutes. Step #1 is to peel and mash the bananas. A fork works best for this. Tip: The riper the bananas, the sweeter the pancakes will be.

Then crack the eggs and add them to the bananas. The flour is also added and mixed well. Once all the ingredients are well mixed, a little butter or vegetable oil is poured into the grill pan and then directly onto the grill. Fry the pancakes on both sides for about 2 minutes until they turn golden brown.

Garnish with any toppings and enjoy!

Hot muesli off the grill

Hot muesli off the grill

This recipe comes from Volker Elm, president of the German barbecue association. And you must have reached this rank to get the idea of preparing muesli on the grill. You won’t get anywhere with nuts and chopped fruit on the grill – you need a grill wok for this. But it’s generally a good idea if you’ve developed a taste for specialty grilled dishes.

Ingredients for 4 people)

  • 150 g muesli (of your choice)
  • 1 apple (diced)
  • 1 pear (diced)
  • 4 dried apricots (diced)
  • 30 g sultanas (pickled)
  • 100ml of milk
  • 100 ml of cream
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

That’s how it’s done

First, the sugar is caramelized at a low level in the wok. It is important not to overdo it with the temperature, otherwise the sugar will burn. Once the sugar is completely liquid, the apple and pear cubes are added. Important: Do not stir immediately, otherwise you end up with all the caramel on your spoon! The apples and pears lose liquid, which combines with the caramel. Only after 2-3 minutes should you stir the fruit pieces. Now add the apricots and sultanas and stir well.

When the fruit is caramelised, add the muesli, milk and cream. The temperature can now be increased and the milk-cream mixture is briefly brought to the boil. The oats will gradually absorb the liquid. The muesli is stirred occasionally over low heat until the milk-cream mixture is almost completely reduced or absorbed by the muesli.

The muesli is then decorated with a slice of apple and pear, drizzled with a little honey and served warm.

Breakfast pan à la English Breakfast

Breakfast pan à la English Breakfast

A quick recipe is the hearty and super tasty pan with potatoes, bacon and egg. Everything is grilled briefly and breakfast can be served.

Ingredients:

  • 4 potatoes
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 sausages of your choice
  • 200 g of bacon
  • 150g grated cheese
  • a red onion
  • 100g mushrooms
  • two red peppers
  • salt and pepper
  • basil

Tip: For a veggie version, simply replace the bacon with thin zucchini strips.

That’s how it’s done

First, the potatoes are peeled and boiled in salted water until cooked. Meanwhile, the vegetables can be washed and cut. The mushrooms are quartered, the onion is peeled and, like the two peppers, cut into strips. The bacon and sausages are also brought in bite-sized form.

Heat the grill to 200 degrees and then sear the meat in the cast iron pan. It continues with the potatoes, which are cut into bite-sized pieces and put into the pan with the onion, peppers and mushrooms. After 10 minutes of sautéing on medium heat, everything is seasoned with pepper and salt and the grated cheese is added. As a final step, the eggs are fried in a separate pan and placed on top of the dish.

Serve the breakfast pan immediately, while it’s still hot and with lots of fresh basil.
