Marienstraße in Neu-Ulm has developed into a gastronomic mile over the years. From Mike’s Café Bar to Michelangelo, Sai-Gon and Baker Honold, there’s a row of chairs. But now there is a backlash.

Restaurateur Antonio Malizia has closed the Michelangelo since September 1st. The main reason for the closure is also a problem of other restaurateurs: lack of staff. “I can’t manage the store alone,” says Malizia. The also in Voehringen famous restaurateur (restaurant Colosseum) only opened the Michelangelo in Neu-Ulm in February last year. His plan at the time: to serve classic Italian cuisine in the Neu-Ulm Michelangelo and to establish the second Michelangelo in Ulm – in the striking corner building on the corner of Herdbrücke – as an ice cream parlour.

The Ulm restaurant on Herdbruckerstraße will remain “of course”. Malizia did not want to speculate over the phone whether pizza and pasta in addition to ice cream will also find a home here again in the future.
Specialties from Greece in organic quality will one day be available at Kr-Eat in Neu-Ulm.

With the opening of the Michelangelo, a long butcher tradition at the location came to an end: Most recently, Metzger-Hans was to be found here. What follows is unclear. Another former slaughterhouse is apparently set to open. At Brenner on Augsburger Strasse, nothing seems to stand in the way of the reopening of “Kr-Eat”: The letters are up, the shop is set up. But when it starts cannot be found from the number given on the internet. The only thing that is clear is that specialties from the Greek island of Crete will be sold. According to the extract from the trade register, freshly prepared dishes are also planned.
