For example, do you remember the Prophetenkuchen? This interesting pastry was already popular in Eastern times, especially in Thuringia. Some also know it under the name “Huckelkuchen”. But what is it and how do you prepare it? Here comes the simple recipe.

The term refers to a sheet cake that consists of only one layer – a sheet of dough that creates very interesting “bumps” during baking. Sometimes the cake is a little softer, sometimes it is firm and crunchy, almost like a biscuit. In addition to eggs, sugar, fat and flour, there is also a strong shot of schnapps – and when it is ready, the cake is buttered and sprinkled with powdered sugar. Here comes the recipe.
You need: 500 grams of flour, 6 eggs, 1 cup of rum, 100 grams of margarine, 100 grams of sugar, a pinch of salt, a little butter for brushing and powdered sugar for dusting.

Here’s how it works: Pour half the flour into a large mixing bowl, add the eggs, rum, margarine, sugar and salt and mix everything with a hand mixer to form a smooth dough. Then add the rest of the flour and work it in quickly. Preheat oven to 220 degrees.
Prophetenkuchen or Huckelkuchen? The recipe is the same!
Roll out the dough thinly on the work surface and place on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Then melt a little butter in a saucepan and grease the dough with it. Bake the cake in the oven for about 20 minutes. It should not get too brown. It is done when it is golden brown in color and has numerous bumps and bumps.

Remove from the oven and let cool a bit. Brush again with a little melted butter and dust with a layer or two of icing sugar. Then cut into pieces and serve. A cup of whipped cream goes well with this. Enjoy your meal!
